May 13 – A very important game was played by two very good sides with Allysha scoring a beautiful goal early on.

With shots on goal coming all the time and one hitting cross bar, it looked like Rangers’ day. But late in first half, with the ball going out, a Bossley player kept running while our girls stopped for the throw. The Bossley player scored to make it one all at half time.

Rangers were very confident of going on with the job in the second half when Lauren scored with a free kick from outside the penalty area. But the referee, who hadn’t put his arm up, disallowed the goal, saying the free kick was indirect.

With minutes remaining a Bossley girl tripped in our box and won a penalty. Bossley scored and won 2-1.

Roberta, who had a good second half, is improving every week.

Once again Steffi and Mahaley had superb games, tackling and attacking from the back while Shenay was tough in the centre.

Lauren was everywhere, giving a stellar performance and receiving the coaches’ player of the match award.

Brittany had her best game by far and Yasmin is improving in the centre every week. Mary (the shoulder charger) had her best game for few weeks and Ama, who always goes hard, did so this week with a much improved passing game.

Olivia tried hard and was pushed over in the box as she was about to score but the foul wasn’t given.

Allysha scored a great goal but, feeling sick, couldn’t finish of some chances.

Don’t worry girls, there’s always next week.

One thing positive: the girls did not like losing!

Train hard play hard.

May 12 – Rangers hosted AC United, who won the 2nd division competition in 2011, without Jakeb (injured) and Anas (absent).

With only 12 regular players available our boys were often required to play in positions they were unfamiliar with.

Fortunately, the U14/2’s played the game prior to ours and we were able to borrow two boys (Ben and Dylan) to assist as substitutes.

In a hard-fought match, AC were able to open the scoring from a set piece midway through the first half.

About ten minutes later AC extended their lead to 2-0 from a dubious offside decision.

While our boys tried hard to get back into the match in the 2nd half, we didn’t apply pressure on our opposition to create genuine scoring opportunities and were unable to reduce the deficit.

Our boys will learn from the experience of playing against a well-organised opponent and, despite being beaten 2-0, will be better prepared for a difficult stretch of matches in coming weeks.

In the heat of the day the girls put in a dour struggle in the first half: no reserves and down one- nil it didn’t look good.

Olivia had a severely bruised wrist and we were against it with a much larger side ready to run us into the ground in the second half.

But, showing true grit and determination, the girls came back to one-all with a great through ball from the injured Olivia to Allysha, who ran 40 metres and scored.

With keeper Roberta saving shots, Lauren Shenay, Mahaylie and Steffy repelled Kemps Creek’s attacking raids.

Lauren and Shenay stopped a certain goal — it was bodies on the line stuff.

Ama, Yasmin Mary and Brittany did battle in the midfield, holding their own against much bigger opponents, while Allysha and Olivia started putting pressure on the defence. Two more goals seemed certain but the girls ran out of puff.

With a one-all draw the coaches are very proud of the girls. Coaches’ player of the match was Shenay after a stellar performance, with Mahaylie and Lauren making excellent attacking raids from the back.

Train hard, play hard!

May 5 – With a full squad available other than Anas (absent), our team structure took on a more settled appearance home to Fairfield Patrician Brothers.

We needed a result in our first home game for the season and our boys quickly assumed dominance in this match.

First half goals to Jakeb and Hassan (2) quickly had us in a commanding position; however, we relaxed and conceded a last-minute goal which left us leading 3-1 at half time.

The second half again saw our boys dominate the general play, although we did squander multiple opportunities to create scoring pressure.

A further goal to Hassan completed his hat trick and saw us extend our lead to 4-1.

FPB were next to score midway through the half; however, a late goal to Mandela rounded out a convincing 5–2 result.

Despite what was a comfortable win our boys will need to combine better and be more clinical in front of goal if we are to test better opponents in coming weeks.

Allysha once again showed great skill scoring four goals.

Olivia scored the first goal and the goal of the game, involving six passes.

Roberta put it all on the line saving a terrific attack on goal, Lauren was a rock and the ever-improving and extremely important Shenay, Mahaley and Steffi repelled the Olympic forwards.

Workaholics Ama, Yasmin, Mary and Brittany controlled the important centre of the field with straight up hard work.

The coaches and parents are so very proud of the girls, who train hard and play hard.

April 29 – After the previous day’s poor result and with all players back on deck other than Moe (injured), we needed a better performance away at Kemps Creek and that’s exactly what occurred.
The initial stages of the match were hard fought and evenly contested.

Unfortunately, our central striker Jakeb fell heavily and sustained a painful shoulder injury after 15 minutes, which ultimately ruled him out of the match and meant we were down to one substitute on the bench.

Despite this setback we were able to settle into the game and took a deserved 1-0 lead into half time, after a 25th-minute goal to Mandela.

After the half time interval, KC came at us hard and they were able to score an equaliser after only five minutes.

Our opponents were gaining the upper hand (partially through some questionable tackling) and they were able to convert the pressure into a winning goal midway through the second half.

While our boys created some opportunities to score, we were unable to equalise and in the end went down 2-1.
Overall, it was a much better effort from our squad and we probably should have achieved at least a draw from this match.

April 28 – Rangers ventured to Hammondville Park to play a side that we’ve had difficulty with in recent years.

We only had 11 players, with three players missing: Mandela (wedding), Matthew (working) and Anas (absent).

Fortunately, we were able to borrow two boys from the U14/2 side (Ray and Josh) to assist as substitutes.

Despite the coaching staff’s urgings our boys just didn’t apply themselves in the initial part of the match and found themselves trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The goal from Moorebank seemed to wake our boys up and we soon got back into the match and drew level with a goal from Yanni.

Half Time score: 1-1 all.

The second half was a dour affair. Yanni and Moe picked up injuries, which left us with no substitute options.

Moorebank appeared to want the result more than us and they were able to score midway through the half to take a 2-1 lead, which ended up being the final result.

Overall it was a lacklustre performance from our boys, who must bring a better attitude if they are to be competitive each week at division 2 level.
